Women's Issues
Women face unique challenges as they navigate relationships, careers, and family, such as everyday microaggressions and oppression on a grander scale. Women of color and the LGBTQIA+ community have additional stressors and barriers to contend with on a daily basis. I use my experience with women and community mental health work, as well as experience with refugee resettlement and psychotherapy, to highlight these influences within sessions. With this awareness, I help clients to solidify self-esteem and identity. As a cis-gender white woman, I always approach clients with different backgrounds with humility, while also being proactive in educating myself outside sessions. The therapist-client relationship is one based on equality and partnership, so I always see the client as the expert on their life experiences.
